The school has grown out of a number of partnerships 

The first school in July 2008 received significant funding from the British Council/ DfES on an initiative lead by the university of Leeds and derived from an England-Africa Partnership for the development of university programmes in Meteorology and Climate Science in Ghana.  It resulted from a British Council / DfES partnership between the University of Leeds, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Ghana Meteorological Agency.

The second school will take place in July 2010 and is this time funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The partnership of KNUST, GMET with ICTP and UNESCO aims not only to lead a successful school, but establishment a longterm committment to a climate/meteorological research network in ghana and across the wider region.
